Question Your thoughts on a salvage title

Would you?

There are some good looking prices on a lot of bikes with salvage titles, but I just can't bring myself to consider one. OTOH, if it was purely cosmetic damage and the insurance company totaled it out, then it was bought and repaired, it would be a smoking deal for someone. Likewise, if it was a bent frame and someone repaired it, it would be a nightmare deal for the buyer if it wasn't done right.

Salvage title; opportunity or black plague?

It can be more than "Free" ... but it has to be Real Cheap

And NOT "Real Cheap" for the Year ... Real Cheap Period

.

If you're the type of guy who keeps a bike for a long time, and doesn't care about resale value, it works great. If you need to change bikes every two or three years, its a bit of a problem.

If you purchase a bike with a salvage title, just plan on keeping it forever.

I would not myself.
A riding buddy has a grandson that wanted to start riding awhile back. While cking on bikes around our area he came across a salvage title bike that looked to be in great shape.
The bike had not sold for months and months. I think 5k was being asked for it. After a good bit haggling he bought what should have been a 7k bike for 2500 dollars cash. Salvage title limits the buyers a lot.

The boy is still riding it after 2 years but they have now illusions about it's value. In this case being a salvage title------ Maybe but .not as a rule.

What Uncle Larry said; check to see if you can get full coverage, If you want just liability insurance; plan to keep the bike and the price is right than go for it.

Exactly. As an insurance agent my office fields calls about this all the time.

As others have said; I'd never consider it.
