Yes! That's why I bought mine.
I looked long and hard at the Road King, Switchback, and Heritage, and rode them all. I was looking for one bike that I could ride around town but also take on multi-day road trips. I also tried out the other touring models (Street Glide, Road Glide) as well as Sportsters and a couple Dynas. The Road King came out on top as the best combination for me.
I occasionally stop by a dealer and look at the other bikes, and have ridden several on demo days, but nothing makes me want to trade in my Road King. Now if I had the time, money, space, etc. for more than one bike then there is a whole list of bikes I would like to have.

As for an "all around" H-D I'd go 50/50 between the RK and the Heritage Softail Classic.
The RK is definitely a better "road bike" and the Heritage is lighter and is a great cruiser and bar-hopping machine.
I've owned Sportsters, FL's, and Super-Glides (no Dynas) and I currently have a CVO Ultra, a Tri-Glide and a '98 Heritage Softail Springer Anniversary Edition carbed EVO and while it is the bike I'm planning on keeping forever and my wife has a Heritage Softail Classic.
While it is a beautiful nostalgic piece of art and a great cruiser, the Springer (IMHO) is lacking in the touring arena mainly due to the lack of wind protection.
Every model seems to have specified use and I've found that I ride the larger bikes many more miles and take more trips than I do on the smaller ones.
My wife on the other hand is totally satisfied with her Heritage (her second) and can ride as many miles in a day as I care to on my Ultra!
