Dealers make more on the sale of a late model trade in bike, than they do on a new bike. Tell them to stick the fees up their ***.

Demand you get a loan rate of 25%. (It's the in thing to have.)

Cross thread points?

On a used bike there should be no fees beyond tax and licensing. There is no required "Prep Fee". The only fees that have laws around them are the "Document Fees" in certain states. Some states have rules capping Doc Fees. Do a search on "buying a used motorcycle from a dealer". If they try to stick you with the prep fee or other BS fees, walk...

so you didn't even look at the paperwork before you signed it?

while the bottom line is the most important number, how they get there is important too. if dealer a is going to sell the bike for $15,000 with no fees, and dealer b is going to sell the same exact bike for $13,000 but with $2,000 in fees tacked on, even though the bottom line is the same, psychologically, you are going to feel like you got a better deal from dealer b.

also, there probably is more work in 'dealer prep' involved with a used bike than a new one. they've got to make that used bike look like a new one again. though, admittedly, that really should be borne out in the sale price of the bike (again, see above)

finally, the moco reimburses the dealer for any prep and assembly required to get the new bike ready for sale. it used to be displayed on the h-d webpage under 'all specs and pricing' but seems they've gotten smart and don't display those notes anymore.

IMO, there should be laws to protect the consumer from merchants that intentionally lie about bogus charges (isn't that considered fraud?)...either way, for me, I refuse to do business with a merchant or salesperson that intentionally lies to me....that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

While we already have a plethora of nannyism consumer protection laws, I am generally against more legislation that protects the ignorant from doing the obvious, read the sales contract before you sign it.

Any dealer that tries to charge an assembly fee on a used bike qualifies for the "Stealership" title.
