Default Canadians buying parts from HD online dealers...

With currency exchange and full msrp it makes it pretty pricey buying from the Canadian dealers. Most of the online US dealers with good discounts have really clamped down on selling to Canadaians including freight forwarders and even when you cross the border to a pick up depot. Has anyone had any luck getting either discounted parts from a Canadian dealer in the west or some tricks to still get orders from the US? Please PM me and don't post if you have any suggestions on ordering from the US dealers as I'm sure the mothership is watching and would be interested to learn too.

I'm in Ontario and have tried, they won't, and it's not just to Canadians. Harley has this sort of regional policy preventing them to keep other dealerships from undercutting your local dealer. BMW does the same with new car sales.

I wanted to buy a US rear fender for my Iron, called three US dealers and they all would not sell me one or ship to another state. I eventually bought one from Buffalo, even then, I couldn't buy it over the phone. All you can do is drive to a US dealer order/buy it, then go again to pick it up. The alternative is to have someone in the US buy it for you and ship it.

I buy 95% of my stuff from FORTNINE

Of course it limits me on what I can buy.

(not exactly the answer you were seeking, I realize.)

In my experience if you're planning to spend some decent money, ask your dealer what they can do. Mine is always good for at least 10% discount. If you can get this you will not have much to gain after shipping and exchange (and maybe duties) on orders from the US.

I don't buy too much from the US, I try to support local economy, but when needed, I either use a US freight shipping address or I get help from my American friends to buy the item and then ship it to me (or my US shipping address).

OP, sounds like you've answered your own question, by the time $ exchange, duty, trying to buy over the border, just go to your local dealer and pick it up, usually they'll discount 10%. I live in a border town, easily can go over to HD and buy, but exchange doesn't make it worth while. And that's with Customs at the border asking how much, they give me "go ahead" (no duty). If you're not in a rush for the parts, you'll find a deal around home.

Any time I can help someone let me know. I do for a guy in Toronto not a big deal.

I buy my drugs from Canada pharmacy, WAY cheaper than US, so why not the other way around.
