Honestly, no clue. From the split second I remember, it was shaped like a car air intake pipe.

Raider Bill's comments are fair but ... please refer to the quote above from TwiZted Biker - whose points are well taken as well.

These so-called warranties are basically insurance policies more than a warranty; some are based upon third party provider - insurance companies. Has anyone ever seen an insurance company that owns a small skyscraper?

I really dont have a good answer for how I didn't. There was some hang-time involved.

It looked like an air intake pipe from the quick glimpse I got.

There are good ones and there are bad ones. Most administer to the letter of the contract. Some Admin a bit loosely than others. Some admin tight.
The vast majority of them are in fact 3rd party administrators that get a small percentage of the premium to pay out claims and expenses. Most of the premium stays at the selling dealership and is a huge profit for them.
A couple of them are actually insurance companies but they are a minority.

In the 32 years I have done this, I've found that it's the shop to watch out for. Bad diagnosis, up selling, utter and complete fraud. But then we do not work for the warranty companies the have the motto " deny everything, buy only when you absolutely have to".
