Just another reason in the growing list, not to live there!

The first pipes I had on my bike were Screaming Eagle and they had "for off-highway use" stamped on them. They were much louder than the current pipe, D&D Bobcat, and I never saw such markings on the D&D. I bring this up as occasionally, at the top of the snake and other spots in LA, the CHP and Sheriff department will conduct and safety inspection and write up everyone for violations. Ther noise aside, this might be the way they enforce this going forward.

Now that there is a financial incentive to write violation tickets, expect the government to push for more ticket writing.

Every time I hear an extremely loud Harley, I just shake my head. The rider seeks attention more than performance.

This is the liberal state way. I live in California, but not near the liberal hell holes of Southern CA and the bay area. In my part of the state, the fruits and nuts actually grow on trees. But, we still need to live under the rule of the liberals.

This is all about money. They haven't been able to raise income taxes as much as they'd like because it hurts even their voting base. But "Behavior Modification Taxes"? Tax the few to keep from hurting the many.

Typically those taxed have more discretionary income. Got a newer car? Then your registration fees are much higher. Smoke? Yeah, they get ya hard there. Drive a gas guzzler? high gas taxes. Loud pipes on your hot rod car, truck or motorcycle? Gotcha! Y'see, lower income people (who typically vote blue) don't have those things.

Where I live there is a "diesel performance" shop. They modify exhaust systems on pickup trucks. Black smoke is the rage with the younger truck owners. The shop is owned and operated by a retired CHP officer. Go figure.

At least Harleys sound good. I could never understand the 4 cylinder fart-can thing. The sound they make is obnoxious and just advertises the fact that there's a wimpy little engine in it.

Don’t bash California on this one. California has some of the weakest vehicle code enforcement in the country. Other than bi-annual smog checks, there are no vehicle inspections. I lived in Pennsylvania & New York with their state inspections, and I know legally operating inspection stations would fail any non-OEM exhaust.

As others have said, blame the abusers that are running shorts. Do you really need your bike to rattle windows? This just brings attention to those of us that were more reasonable with non OEM exhaust.
