Just another way for the gov. to get your cash.

If people didn’t take exhaust noise to the extreme, it wouldn’t even be an issue. I like a deep rumble like most people, but when it’s so loud that it rattles windows...then I don’t agree with that, and I’m OK with those abusers being ticketed.

There is some &$$wipe that occasionally visits on of our neighbors. He has an older Yamaha with shorts. When he starts and rides by, the dishes in our cupboards rattle. This is the kind of crap that ends up with bikes being banned in private communities such as the Carmel 17 Mille Drive,

so...yeah...allow the authorities to ticket gross abusers.

As much as I love a good rumble as well, and HATE over-regulation which is unfortunately our way of life in California, I'm in agreement here. Drives me nuts when idiots feel the need to call attention to themselves by infringing on others. I used to ride with a guy who had V&H long shots on his FatBoy and LOVED to be a show-off, so he'd hit the throttle real hard whenever pulling out of bars/restaurants/etc. It was obnoxious, embarrassing and is probably the main reason why riding with him is past-tense.

The first three replies for the quieter exhaust......pay attention, pilgrim it's a small wonder why the laws are changing. Folks are tired of the wild bunch raising hell in their communities.

You get what you vote for, if you vote.

I am perfectly fine with government making money off of people with excessively loud vehicles.
Even vehicles with no mufflers can be operated fairly quietly if you try.
Now, if you want to be the person that makes as much noise as possible to draw attention to them selves in an urban environment, then maybe you need to pay a noise tax.

The regulations are not clear and this rule gives the LEO carte blanche reason to pull you over for no reason. The true focus is on the whistler pipes and street racers or so they say, but it only takes one small town sheriff to decide to pull groups of bikes over and ticket them for pipes without any other reason to pull them over. Or too sit outside events and tag everyone.

It is an over reach and seriously a 1000.00 is steep. For years, this was a simple fix it ticket.

I am not advocating for loud pipes, but for better written rules. What if I am out riding my 1946EL. That bike is pretty loud since the pipes are simply pipes; not mufflers. And what about my 2001 EVO with a basic aftermarket pipe. They used to pull you over on certain roads in CA back in the early 2000s and ticket you for pipes. And it was a fix it ticket, but you could spend two hours waiting in line at the top of hgwy 9 and 35 as they would set up the sting and pull everyone over into a line at the stop sign. Took forever too and would ruin your day if you were in row of 75 bikes. Simply, not fun. Back then the word simply got out and folks quit riding those scenic areas. After a time, the local eateries and pubs bitched up a storm and they stopped harassing motorcycles.

For those in other states you could be next. Think about that.

And what if this was a helmet law discussion. What would your reaction be then...

Government making money? LOL.......Probably costs us $3 for every $1 that gets collected.
