Big Bore, worth the money?

If you have a bike that's worth say $8500,and you put $1500-$2500 into motor work in it, it will still be worth $8500. If your$8500 bike's motor goes south, then it's worth can be anything you can get for it. At that point, putting $1500-$2500 into the motor will make it easier to sell. And at that point it might be worth doing the work you wanted, to do to get it back on the road. You asked if it would be worth it, to me I wouldn't sink money into a good running bike, just so every once in a while you can twist the throttle and feel 20 seconds of acceleration. I know guys that put big bucks in their motors and hardly ever use what they paid for. Your choice.,,

But, I take a few trips a year, just want more grunt when I roll. Keeping improvements low cash so I Picked up the se255 for a buck forty. Not sure if I real need the top end or not, but would be nice.

.I just did an AMS (Ft Worth, TX) Hi- Torque Pork 105 kit a few months back on my 96" 2007 Dyna. No head work, CV-40, Stand Alone Ignition system, SE-255 cams and a 9.9:1 CR. Pulls like a locomotive from idle to 6300 redline. A very quick bike that does not need to be downshifted to pass and it didn't break the bank putting together.

Passing power is an ego trip to reckon with and none equals this-(for me)
A group of riders pulls into the station where I am just done filling up, I now have my coffee in hand.
My woman got that for me as i was doing the detail.
They swarm the bike like mad bees, and inform me they had tried to catch us, that their TC could not just keep up!
There was a slight headwind we were loaded HVY for Sturgis.
I blew past them some miles back having no clue they want to play catch up.
Talk about pissed!
They got so pissed when they discovered it was just a little EVO they could not catch, and accused it of being a big inch stroker.
Yup, that stroked my ego.
The moral of the story- a proper set up 80-inch lil EVO can run, but so could a 100 inch anything.
Again - it is the details that make the difference, not just a piston and cylinder.
Dont get caught in the stage craze as it is just jukebox play that works over and over for the masses.
Do your home work.

"Worth the money" is a personal question. Do you have the money, will it cause a divorce, etc. If you do go for a build I would suggest finding a competent builder and getting a matched system. There is no quicker way to disappointment and huge bills than piece mealing an engine together.
