Default Time to chop

Just got this for 2300 bucks

1997 sporty 1200 10500 miles. Plan is to hardtail it over winter and use it to ride around town rather than getting the bagger out I have a 1 car driveway and always have to move everything to get out. But I could squeeze a skinny bike past the truck. Seems reason enough to me to build something new.

Anyone have any any experience with weld on hard tails. Specifically I am wanting to know if I should go with 2” or 4” stretch. Can’t find any pics of the 4”. Wondering if it will look funny with the 4”.

Im 6,2” tall just for reference

are you looking at aftermarket hard tails? what company makes these?

4 inch extension does sound like a bit out there.

I'd keep it as is & ride the urine out of it. But that's me.

Did a few weld on hardtails for shovels & Triumphs back in the day just take your time and make sure to get things straight & aligned. you may have to do a little tweaking on the tail unit to get the fit just right. Far as stretch do you homework concerning the belt length unless you plan on going chain on the rear. All I got, enjoy the experience.

TC Bros and Led Sled both make a good hardtail kit.

Forward controls make a huge difference on those, also.

As Omaha says Led Sleds and TC Bros have tails Both have customer build pics in 2+4” lengths. At 6-4 either would work for you. Control placement is trial and error.
I’m doing a Led Sleds 2” now and using twin cam forwards with brackets I fabbed up. Check out Dudepants shortchop build in the Sportster section here. He’s doing a rubber mount 2” Led Sleds also. My bike is in that post. I might start a build thread when I get off the road in a month but it’s taken me since September to get where I’m at. Dude is full speed ahead. Lots of info in his post.
Road 6 Customs,Twisted Choppers and Fab 47 also make some nice hardtails.check out XL Forums also. There are some nice builds over there. Tons of info also.G

Nice score. I just put a hard tail kit on order with factory metal about a week ago. I'm 6'4" and went with a 4 inch stretch and 3 drop. Already got my frame goose necked with a 3 inch stretch out front. Going long and low.
