Default Bike won't roll in gear with clutch pulled in

2012 Softail Duluxe wont budge with engine off, in gear, and clutch pulled in. This wasn't always the case and it shifts fine when running.

I assume it could be the clutch needing adjustment so I watched a couple videos on the procedure but would appreciate any comments from this knowledgeable group before removing the derby cover.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

They all do that, especially when the clutch has cooled down. The plates stick together, nature of the beast. They get broken apart when you put it in gear. That's why you start in neutral with the clutch have in, so you don't beat up the starter.

The times it didn't do it the clutch plates were warm. If you don't have shifting trouble, I wouldn't say the trouble you're having is indicitive of needing a clutch adjustment.

While some drag is normal, it should not be immovable. His clutch likely needs adjusting. It probably wouldn't hurt to change fluid.

How cold has it been there? Why try to push it around with it in gear?

LOL - ah no they don't all do that! The op needs a clutch adjustment, that is all. Use the tensioning screws and adjust.

It's stuck clutch friction plates, "stiction".
It even happens to new bikes like mine. Kick it up into a higher gear to get it un stuck and moving or start the bike and move it.
It is not an adjustment issue on my bike, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Good luck,
Mike

You’ll always get clutch drag. But, not so much that you can’t move it at all. Probably needs a clutch adjustment. And put it in neutral.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I will start with the path of least resistance and take it down the road to see if it continues when I get back and it cools down. If it continues I will try adjusting the clutch. Results to follow.

Try pushing it in neutral.
