A few months after my MC accident I almost was in the same exact type of accident (driver was going to left turn in front of us from a side street ) only I was a passenger in a 3/4 ton 4WD pickup truck, not the driver. Also the reason was different. In the MC accident the driver didn't "see me", but in the other one the teen driver was staring at a cellphone. The reason it was almost in the second case was that the driver of the truck layed on his air horns and got the drivers attention. From the expression on her face I wouldn't have been surprised if she had soiled herself but hey, that's better than dying.

Riding motorcycles is not rational. One could use the safety argument to outlaw motorcycles all together.

 

Exactly, and the same argument extends to literally any activity.

"If you do this thing, you could hurt yourself, and in so doing impose costs on society. Therefore we have the authority to forbid it" is a boundless argument.
