I’m with you. I rode just over 16k last year and won the HOG chapter high mileage award. I know, that ain’t saying much. A lot of HOG chapters don’t ride much but ours actually does. It’s a large chapter and a good many of the members are serious riders. I work full time, have to park it a good bit during the Ohio winters but I still ride in weather that most riders wouldn’t dream of riding in. I ride every day if the roads aren’t slick. If it isn’t raining when I roll up the garage door in the morning I ride to work. I spend my vacations and holidays riding and take a few long out of state trips a year and still don’t ride half as much as this guy. I call BS.

He must use his bike to commute to work. I put about 25k miles a year on my commuter car, then miles on the bikes. Probably all works out to 35k-ish total. Still a lot of miles for a lot of years, and yeh winters are involved. Good for him.

I've averaged 30k/year on my bikes in the past 8 years with a full time job. 117 mile round trip to work, 5 days a week is most of it, with weekend rides and 1 or 2 multi-day rides per year. I average less than 5k/year total on my four wheeled vehicles. I drove the truck to work only 12 times last year.

It's not possible for any bike, no less a Harley, to do that many miles on original equipment. The engine cases alone would've needed replacement at least twice, or more.

Not saying it can't be done but your lifestyle would have to be conducive for it to happen. My commute is less than 3 miles one way so for me to rack that kind of mileage would be impossible given weather, other commitments etc. I put less than 1000 on my Softail last year mainly just bar hopping and rallies.

I knew someone would call bs. I used to average 35k+. My bike was my only transportation. Weekends (leave Fri after work, return Sunday) 1500 was not uncommon. And if I had a Monday off I would travel farther. Lots of small rallies and such to travel to. I used my camping gear 50% of the time.

Just because you choose not to, or cannot, rack up miles doesn't mean other do not. I've always lived in the southeast.

I'm 57, and have over 800,000 miles on two wheels. Guess I'm a liar also because you didn't do what I did?

I also do 30k a year. I use my bike for transportation, recreation, and vacation. However, I've never put more than 60k on any single bike. I think I have the grass is greener syndrome? I can't imagine 500k. He must've been very sentimental about his machine, true fact or not.
