Dedicated Navigation or Smartphone Navigation

In your opinion whats better and why?

IMHO, smartphone nav. Dont need a subscription, and if the system takes a dump, you replace the phone. Can't do that easily with a built in system, plus you are beholden to a single vendor for updates and service.

I avoid single-task devices wherever possible. Smartphone.

Neither but hardwired tech on any vehicle gets old awful fast, phone is easily upgraded.

I have many many thousands of miles on my zumo 660. Still going strong and no end in sight. It has been through torrential rainstorms, even snowstorms. I challenge any phone to come close. A phone has it's place and I will use one in a pinch. But put a dedicated GPS on a bike properly mounted and never worry about it. Add that they have come down in price over the years and it is a no brainer.

a GPS navigation system will never leave you stranded when there’re no cell reception.....it depends where you are going..

There is an app called CoPilot GPS that does not need a cell signal. You download the region you will be riding in, or say, North America. Just a point as I would still take a dedicated GPS all day long.

If I were using a phone, waze is my app of choice for the information provided but it does crash from time to time. My zumo has never crashed.

^^^^^ That
I use either or both in my truck. I like the Waze App for the iPhone. It has gotten me out of many traffic jams in the past.

I’ll take the smart phone because one day HD will say the navigation system on the bike comes (ready )
Meaning you won’t be able to use it until you pay $500 or more to enable it . So each time you buy a bike it’s another $500 bucks !

Don't use satnav. Getting lost can be a lot of fun, and i get to see places i wouldn't have if kept to my planned route.
