Remote Parking
I would love to ride my bike to work (16 mi), but am required to park about 250 yards away in the middle of the parking lot which is for employee parking. I have good insurance, but feel kinda weird with it that far out of sight. Anyone else have this issue and what do you do?

I park where I need to park. At my office, it's close to the building but I cannot see the bike from the inside. It's not like you can sit there and constantly watch the bike anyway, no matter where you are.
In my corner- Heavy bike. Not easy for someone(s) to grab it and go.
Loud alarm siren (and a pager for me for the alarm).
Insurance to cover theft.
Very low motorcycle theft rate in my state.
Lock the steering and all the bags every time I park.
On every overnight road trip I've ever been on- park in the motel parking lot- bike was always there.
I simply park and don't worry about it.

do you have a serious problem in your parking lot at work? if not, then I would suggest parking where you're supposed to and just chill out a little. I know that we seriously love our bikes and think of them as 'our children', but really, it is just a bike. if your lot is okay now, chances are, it will continue to be so.
if you have people getting their cars broken into on a regular basis, then I might rethink parking there.

If there are other bikers where you work, get together and ask the company to create a M/C lot. Install concrete anchored loops that a hefty chain can be attached to, and looped around the frame. Leave the chain attached, so you don’t have to lug it around. You could also install surrounding posts, so a vehicle can’t get in and hook up to a bike to tow it.

Ummm, I take it you never ride your bike to the grocery store.
I used to work inside a secure building. There weren't any windows even if my bike would have been nearby. The parking lot was used by the public. It never occurred to me to worry about leaving my bike there and never had a problem.
At the end of the day, it's a personal choice. If YOU don't feel safe, don't do it! Follow my example and somebody will probably hit it the first day.

My bike got hit in a parking lot of a Home Depot.
Had my helmet hanging on my finger, this guy walked up and asks “Hey man, is that your Harley out there? Instantly knew what happened.
The dude handed me a piece of paper with the hit and runner’s make, model, plate, and company name. The cops had him almost instantly.
Got it fixed, moved on. If your too worried, why even have it.
