Should I buy it? 01 Road Glide
Hello All,
I’m an experienced motorcycle rider and consider myself a bit of a gearhead but I’m completely new and rather unfamiliar with the Harley Davidson cycles.
I’m looking at purchasing a 2001 HD Road Glide FLTR (carbureted not injected) with roughly 50,000 on the odometer. The bike would be purchased from a trusted acquaintance and I firmly believe the maintenance has been kept up. I am wondering if there are any known/common major issues I should be aware of, or anything specifically that I should watch for that would prevent me from the purchase of this motorcycle? 50,000 seems like a lot of miles on a bike, is there lots of life left, or is she well over the hump?
They are a bit of a collector and looking to trim back a few bikes in their inventory. Bike appears to be in very good to excellent condition with lots of extras. Telling me “it’s a steal” asking me for $4500, based on a bit of reasearch it seems to be more than fair for price.
What are ya’lls thoughts and opinions? Should I pull the trigger on this?
Regards,

Hell yes! If it speaks to you.
Wish I could explain that in normal terms, but that's about the best I can do. I've bought too many motorcycles through the years (yeah, like that's really possible) and those I had that first unexplainable impluse to buy, have never been a regret.
Hmmm, now that I think about it, that was pretty much all of em.

Thank you! I wasn't aware of this issue, looks to be something I would be comfortable swapping out with the upgraded replacement gear kit myself if he hasn't had it done already. I'll put it on the list of things to ask him about.

For sure, if it has not been done it looks to be pretty devastating if it fails... it would be the very first thing I do to it. I'd beat him up a bit on the price if it wasn't already taken care of, but at $4500 I don't think I would have a right to do so
