I have an 04 Road King.
Every year I hope through the same delima as you, on upgrade or trade.
Every year I upgrade.
It's nice to have options.
You buy new, and you options are greatly reduced, unless you want to lose lots of money.
Two grand is nothing to throw at a bike.
Upgrade your bike and it'll keep you happy till next year, then do it again.
Won't take long before you have something really special.

[QUOTE=pop1;18095214]I have been out of the loop for a few years. About 2 yrs ago i scooped up a low mileage 2006 CVO Ultra. I'm thinking about throwing some new shocks on it, maybe a new seat, handlebars etc. It's got about 16k miles on it. U guys think its dumb to put that kind of loot into a 13yr old bike? I could just go get one of the M8's.

Looking for some thoughts, opinions.

Yeah I’d get the m8, but I’d keep the 06 handy so you have something to ride when the 8’s in the shop.

I learned decades ago that any vehicle is only as old as what the odometer reads. I found my 06 electra with 13K on it a few years ago,I've wound it up to 40k, replaced the crappy chain timed cams with gears (which you can't often do with the poorly built crankshafts in later Harleys) & 551 S&S cams with fuel & exhaust. Talk to a good tech and get his opinion on the durability of the pre 07 five speed trany compared to some of the later six speeds too. Sure I'd love more cubes than my 88, bigger is better and more is never enough but on a budget--? I feel good about the reliability even if it was rolled out a few years ago and don't have the dyno numbers that give some guys a stiffy, but she still pleases me to no end.

..... yeah, but yours is a GQ CVO
...... and if you leave the list at relatively easy/cheap stuff like shocks, seat & bars, you're way ahead

I actually had the work done at Roughrider Harley. A tech named Mike really knows his way around the old Magnetti Marelli.
Roughrider isn't your typical dealership they have some really good people working there!! Ben in service has bent over backwards in the past for me many times and Mike has worked on my stuff also, great shop!! they run a pretty tight ship!!
with any luck this white stuff disappears soon! temps look to be improving this week! maybe bump into you sometime this summer out and about!

I too bought a Garage Queen '06 Ultra a few years back. It is paid for, and only 31K on the clock now. Yea, its still an 88, a nice running 88. I had it on the jack yesterday and absolutely nothing wrong with the bike. It is rolling to Daytona this morning!

Most of the guys I know have new bikes. Why would I sell and go new when I am still overjoyed with the '06?
