If I might suggest, you did not give enough information as to your situation to allow anyone to make an informed suggestion. You are 70, 145 pounds and in reasonable condition. What kind of riding have you done and what do you intend to do as long as you can ride? Are you going to head down town for coffee in the morning or heading out for the badlands of New Mexico or to the Big Bend or maybe Yellowstone? I am 75, in reasonable condition and a little over six feet and weigh about 195. That BMW that weighs 300 pounds less than my Road Glide, has half again more horsepower and has nearly three times the suspension travel, looks better every time I go out to the garage. As one gets older, his health and physical ability can change (for the worse) at any time and quickly. No matter what comes up, I'll bet that you can stay on a lighter, more comfortable bike longer. Unless the Harley image is utmost in your mind. Good luck and have fun with whatever you decide. JD

Sometimes it is not about your age but about how many miles you have accumulated on your body. I am only 57, but have had my hip issues within the last year. I had a hip Arthroscopy surgery in July, that kept me off the bike for a good 3 months total. That rebuild didn't last long, I am doing a total hip replacement next month (same hip). That kind of cuts into my riding time and comfort level.

Last year I removed the tour pack and it did help some when I got back in the saddle. There is not much else to take off an Ultra to drop weight without it looking like crap. I may lower it to help out, I am vertically challenged.

Ride until you can't any more

Comfortable is the best way to go.
If you are worried about dropping it that much maybe a much smaller bike or new car would be better?
Chances are if you do drop it and are not hurt somebody will help you pick it up.
If you drop it and are hurt the weight of the bike is not going to matter.
Just my thoughts.

At 75 I purchased my '18 Heritage in October of 2017 after not riding for over 45 years. Took some doing and a lot of practice to get comfortable on it and I put on over 8K miles during the past year. Now I'm 76 quickly approaching 77 and Monday I signed on the dotted line for a '19 Street Glide Special. Big differnce in the ride comfort from the Heritage. Planning to keep and ride both for now but I am really loving the ride of the Glide.

I did make one big investment to insure my ability to move the bike around because I'm short and slight of build. I had Suspension Technologies lower it 1" front and back and then had them install their Reversing Pully that allows you to back up the bike under power. Will back-up a 15% incline with no effort.

I vote for comfort also.

Comfortable and heavy. I'm 70 and I just got my 2nd Low Rider. (2017 Dyna FXDL). Most of my riding is local, but I already took one road trip from Jupiter, FL to Key West, about 250 miles. That would be a chore on one that is uncomfortable but light

If this is presumably your last bike you're probably a veteran rider who has ridden several different types of bikes over the years. Only you know your strengths, limitations, preferences, health, finances etc. I'm 70 as well and need the comfort of a larger bike.

Triglide. Mine has never fallen over. At 67 probably my last bike. Who knows?
