If you locking up your rear tire then each time you ride it to a stop your creating a flat spot.

Wouldn't the tire out of balance cause this as well?

As an old sport bike rider we called that a chicken strip. Your tire is wearing normally and has a softer compound in the center.

My tire is squaring off like the post above me. Is this common. Its not quite that bad yet tire only has about 500 miles on it. But that's what my last tire looked like before I replaced it and what I'm afraid this one is gonna look like. The reason I ask is because I'm having troubles with handling. Even going straight in the wind I'm struggling to maintain lane

In south Florida its common. It didn't take me long to earn my chicken strips down here. All we have down here is mostly straight flat roads. I go on clover leafs sometimes just to get the enjoyment of a nice curve.
