Do you ride it like the scalded dog we had going in another post? I’ve never had as much trouble as you had all my life with no blown engines and I’m a crusty old bastard. Use to ride TT scrambles and motocross back in the 60s, never had a motor quit.

.

Well there ya go! 3 million RPMs is a bit too high. You might want to check your rev limiter setting and functionality.

With a 100 mile commute each day, it would be nice to get there and home in seconds at those speeds LOL

Considering all the miles you put on a bike in a very short time, I think you should go to Harley and offer them a proposition. The key here is that they asked for your 883 engine because they had never seen a 2 year old bike with that many miles. Tell them you want to get a new M8 bike. Tell them that you will put at least 52k miles on it in less than 2 years (you might have to bump that number up to say, 80k) . Ask them if they will consider giving you a deal on it. I would like to see what happens to an M8 under the conditions that you put a bike through. They should consider you a test rider for the M8.

You are expecting a lot from a Harley and Harley Davidson should take advantage of that!

I put 83K on the Ultra and suffered through little engine issues that could always be explained away. Now After having the CVO for 19 months and just 63K miles major engine repair. Quoting the service manager, basically every thing below the cylinders is needing to be replaced. This bike is serviced EVERY 5000 miles by the dealer.

So my question is two fold. Am I truly unusual in that I really RIDE my bikes? And am I expecting too much of a Harley mileage wise?

Please tell me what and how much you ride...
Pics or it didn't happen.

Yes...your expectations are way too high for a HD. They are overweight, underpowered, have shitty suspension and are unreliable.

Most HD owners have them so they can dress up like a pirate and play badass biker on the weekends.

Next question...

My question to you is do you think it's typical that people have the ability to commute to work via a motorcycle? Based on your numbers, that 52K miles in 22 months is what 4,000 non-commuting miles a year?
I sure wish I could commute via my motorcycle instead of taking the train.

Mmmmmm, buy a Yamaha FJR 1300. I'm in that market now, and there's one running around with over 400k miles on its engine.

I'm serious about this - no sarcasm intended. I started riding Harleys with a 1963 Panhead MANY years ago. My last one was a 2007 FLHT that went to Mexico a number of times. Then I shifted to BMW - R1200RT. Now it's a FJR 1300 - Lighter, and smoother. I had both knees replaced a few years ago. H-D just too heavy for my 73 year old body.

Hermosillo, Mexico

Not to hijack this post. I generally cruise between 2500-3000 RPM’s and shift at about 3500. Am I also beating the bottom end to death on my ‘19 new Road Glide M8? Not trying to be a smart *** but I never lug the engine and it does cruise nice at 2500 although I try to stay at or slightly above 2700.
