I've been self employed for almost 30 years. Guess how many raises I got? When my shop was doing well, I did well and so did my help. When it wasn't, I had to keep showing up and putting in the work until it was doing better.
Sometimes I think the rank and file might be a little too insulated from the realities of business.

Actually, time for the unions to really understand how businesses work. Non union professional employees are constantly being hired & layed off depending upon business economics. Unions need to respond appropriately that jobs and benefits can not be guaranteed, else they are lost to overseas labor.

Union people need to follow the money. Union leadership is a joke. They make money for the union upper echelon, not the workers.
I had the pleasure of running union boys outta the bars I hung out. After their union "brothers" threatened my 65 year old dad, who ran a one man shop. The union reps and 'leaders' did nothing. So I found the three union members and "requested" that they repeated the threats to me, a 38 year old retired Marine. I had fun, they didn't seem to enjoy the "conversation" much. Apparently, threatening a elderly man on company property is safer than threatening someone in a bar. I also informed the union reps at the job location. Never heard anything. And I gave them my contact information.
And people wonder why I dislike most union folks.
