Any good DIY tips for cleaning K&N filter?
My air filter is looking pretty plugged, bugs and oil. I know there is a recharge kit for them, but there has to be an equally good way to clean them yourself. My bike is running rich and I'd like to eliminate my filter being dirty as a cause. So what's the best way to diy clean the filter up? Thanks

The bottom half of my filter is pretty saturated with oil and the front part has bugs and stuff stuck in the little groves. The filter was red when it's new and it's now a dark grey color. I don't think blowing it out with air is going to clean it. I'm looking for a solution I can soak it in to really clean it out, then a way to recharge the filter

While I don't use a K&N filer on my FLHTK, (yet), I have used the foam one for 10+ years on my dirt bike. I soak it in Simple Green while intermittently sloshing it in the solution. And go light on the oil. I was over saturating mine until I was scolding by my mechanic.
And a note, all foam filters deteriorate over time. They begin to crumble.

There are several brands available but K&N is one of the easiest to find. It's about $* for a can if I remember right and it will last a long time. I just buy the $12 kit to clean and oil then use it on multiple bikes. You will be surprised how many services it will do.
