Hit a turkey

Im a new rider going on 5 mo or so and have a 48 sportster. Fun bike and have put on 4.5k miles so far. Great day on the bike ... except a turkey beelined from the side hitting my leg/shifter area.... heard it squabble and saw it rolling and puff of feathers. Foot and knee (from being jammed) little sore but no damage to the bike. Dang that bird was heavy... going 45 or so at the time.... yikes!

consider yourself lucky.

Birds will take you OFF the bike if it is a high hit.

I did a claim on a car last week, turkey vs windshield at 55 mph

Turkey went THRU the windshield, the laminate film didn't hold it back, small shards of glass everywhere all the way to the back window ( 4 door car) Seats and dashboard are being removed, every heater duct removed, cleaned and re-installed, plus 4 hours to clean the interior/remove debris as a starting point

Yes, i definitely consider myself lucky.

Man that turkey did a doozy on your car... surprised your windshield not hold it back... but they can be big for sure

Most of the turkeys in my town are in cages ... which only makes them more dangerous. Most don't gobble but prefer texting.

Glad you are OK, OP.

Glad you ok, as mentioned could have been worse, I hit one years ago with my truck, feathers and shit everywhere but I never did find the turkey.

rk classic.

Very lucky guy. We had a OPP hit by one a few years ago, he went down, lost his leg, and just got back on the job recently with a new artificial leg, but not back on the bike. Someone was looking after you above !

The things are feather missiles, and when they get spooked they have a habit of getting about head height as they cross the road, do not want to take a 12-15 pound bird to the face noooo sir.

Have a buddy named Billy but everyone calls him Turkey. Caught him in the chest on the highway, knocked him straight off the back of his bike, 2 cracked ribs, bunch of road rash. Came up on him in the road, laying there and here he is holding a turkey to his chest. Tossed the bird in the cooler in the back of the fly car and brought him to the ER. Cooked the thing after he got out of the hospital.

"That ugly @$$ bird tried to kill me, darn right I'm going to eat it" I still buy him shots of wild turkey when I see him :D

Thanks for everyone's thoughts on good health. And the cases posted involving turkeys.... scary indeed. I was on a divided parkway... 2 lanes either dierection seperated by a landscaped median. Just saw a flash and bam hit my foot and peg/shifter area. Little bit sore this morning but im very lucky.
