Default Cometic Rocker Gaskets

Has anyone had trouble with the Cometic Rocker gaskets leaking? I rebuilt the upper end of my Twin Cam 103 last fall. Was very careful cleaning and torquing everything. Now after 600 miles I notice the rear rocker gaskets are leaking at the rear cylinder. After taking it apart there is nothing evident that would cause a leak. I am replacing them with the Genuine Harley gaskets with the sealant applied to the gasket surface. Just curious if anyone else has had trouble withe these gaskets. Thanks in advance, Dave.

I have often heard it said by pro builders that if they were to use HD gaskets in only one place it would be the rockers. I do the same & even reuse them.... never a leak. I think they run about $6 each... cheap insurance.

There is a huge difference between the Harley and Cometic rocker box gaskets. After tearing apart twice to get the Cometics to quit leaking, finally used the HD gaskets like an old indy told me years ago and no more leaks.

I had trouble with the Cometic gaskets whereever I used them. Gaskets is one thing that Harley does exceptionally well. You Shouldn’t need to use a sealant on the rocker gaskets, Rutabagadave.

I think he might be referring to the sealant that is applied to the HD gasket during their manufacturing process. Never had a problem using the genuine rocker gaskets myself..
