Will there be American leather in 5 years?
Will there be American made leather jackets in 5 years, other than boutique? I was looking at getting second jacket, that I did not need. Pakistani stayed with inflation, some less. I bought a Fox Creek in 2010 for $350, now $550. More than inflation. Schott and Vanson are very small part of the market at their prices.
I am a big American made guy. I don't need a jacket. I was ready to go without I bought a Foxcreek on sale. Which maybe like Pennies is there strategy, only buy on sale. Of course they are gone. There were things I liked better about my old cafe racer pakistani. Sat in the box for weeks while I decided on fit.
Though I have though Harley is helping out American leather, by charging just as much for foreign stuff. Kinda funny.
You can get foreign for around a 1/3, or a lot less Fox Creek more than doubled in 10 years. Good reason not to have that donut, cause I don't want to decide

I also buy red wing shoes and make sure they are the USA made models. I agree it’s becoming harder to find American made stuff, but if you look and are willing to pay al little extra to keep our own people working, you can find it.

I seek out American stuff too. But these prices, I have my doubts they will be there to seek out. I'll often not buy if I can't get American. You really don't need lots of the crap you buy.A $200 increase in 10 years. Has your income increased over 50% in the last 10 year?
But like I said, if Harley keeps its Chinee leather prices that high, it will help them. Harley is obviously not afraid to charge lots. But they may figure out there is break point, which is why they are selling chinese.
I got 2. So even if I wreck a few times, I should be good unless I really blimp out. Which you never know in the next 30 years.
Becoming like Cabelas, you can't buy unless on sale. Reminds of Pennies, which is gone now.

It’s funny how they have it made for pennies on the dollar in China and never lowered the price of the product and then tell us it’s too expensive to make it here in the USA.

I finally flipped on boots about 10 years ago. I don't find redwing that good, now that I have worn others. The Danners that American made are over $300.I returned a pair. But the recraftable style is what staying US. Which I do not find very good and outdated. The injection molded, the like tennis shoes is better
I have some issues need good boots. The American industry has not evolved. I got two pairs of Meindls, so I am not afraid to pay over $300. But I don't want the hard sole sewn on bottoms. I want comfort.
I also don't think Redwings are that good. I wore the kingtoe insulated and not for a few years. Even bough replacement pairs. Going to Timberland was good for me. But this summer I am going to get a pair of Keen. I believe they may have some models assembled in US. Non traditonal boot makers, are not bound by the same old thing their buyers want. I don't care if the sole can get repaired. By the time that happens the boots are worn and lost their support in other places. Magnum, Bates, and the Chinese Danners IMO are just more comfortable.
You can sometimes find American made boots for sites that cater to military, berry compliant. I have two pairs of rebook boots. Other problem for me is, I need asymetrical or king toe.
It does **** me off when a company like Danner that has the infrastructure and know how will sell chinese boots in the $200+ range. Like the pronghorn. I get it in the competitive stuff under 200.
I have a boot fetish. I only wear boots. Spend a lot of time out doors between various activities. Try finding a winter boot made in USA. It is tough. Might find stuff assembled. I am hoping it comes back. I though rising fuel cost would. But they can put a million pairs on a ship. Plus fuel has come back down.

Try Hillside. Excellent quality at reasonable prices. Made in USA.
I wear this jacket 80% of the time. 45-70 degrees. I paid $240 for a 44Long 4 years ago. It’s gone up $10 since then. Regular sizes are only $209.

I have a classic custom heavy leather jacket, but I don’t like wearing it over 65 degrees. It was made in Kiel, WI by BIE Leathers. She was a seamstress that passed away. I have a Harley Mesh with armor for hot weather.
