Portable Carbs (carbohydrates, not carburators)
I'm diabetic, so when I ride I always carry some form of carbs in case of low blood sugar incidents. Now that I'm using a cgm which pings me if it gets too low (amazingly helpful to prevent the stupidity that comes with very low bg levels. which isn't so great while riding) I see just how often lows can happen when inconvenient and unexpected. Anyway, I carry a bottle of Gatorade in my bags, which is the #1 speediest way to correct, but if I'm on a bike w/o bags, or on on foot somewhere, I wanted another source.
Over the years, its been power bars, candy, whatever. Recently I found the best portable solution: Gatorade energy chews. Little squares of fast acting carbs that don't melt, don't spoil and are easy to carry. 30g of carbs that work almost as fast as the drink. I keep a couple in every jacket pocket, my car and all three bikes (in small molle pouches strapped to my handlebars on the LR and FXR)
Just thought I'd share...
Chapstick present for size comparison.

If you are Type 2 diabetic or pre-diabetic and must watch your sugar intake.
Each bar contains 21 grams of sugar.
There are 4 grams of sugar in a teaspoon or cube of sugar. 21 grams = over 5 teaspoons or cubes of sugar.
Does not contain any protein or vitamins. Mostly sugar.

Thanks for the info. I've been looking for something that's portable and has a longer shelf life. Candy bars, fresh fruit and even fruit juice doesn't last very long after initial purchase. And the alternatives, like glucose jell, tastes like unrefined glop. I'll have to see if there are any stores around that carry it and snag a few.
