Helmet strap question

Hey all, looking for input on your experiences regarding helmet straps. I have a helmet with thin nylon chin strap like in the first picture below. About to buy a new lid, but wondering if the wider chin strap like in second picture helps decrease any wind noise on the ears or not? Im thinking the wider strap may protect the ears a bit more. I’m sure there are probably many of you that have used both, so looking to see what your thoughts are.

Seems like your ears would be in the open area where the straps arent?

FWIW-If You want flexible ear protection, buy a DOT helmet with a zip in ear flap. Or cheap ear plugs.

Ive had 1/2 helmets with both, never noticed difference one way or the other .

Whatever you get, get one with a ratchet strap. You're welcome.

If u r talking about dB's, it will have little to no effect.

Think of this..........a FF decreased dB's by "3".

What u have there does not appear to do anything if you are talking about decreasing the dB's.

Is that what you meant by protection? Or physically protecting your ears?

Flapping wise I am unable to help since I only have had the latter PIX in all my helmets.

There is no difference between the two.

Referring mostly to the air turbulence caused by the straps. For example, when riding, if I pull lightly down on the chin strap and snug them up, wind noise is decreased. Not ideal to just tighten the strap because then I have constant pressure on my chin (would need to be enough pressure that would get very uncomfortable fast. I’ve tried). Was thinking maybe the thicker and “bulkier” straps may reduce that turbulence because they are more rigid.

Straps won't make much of a difference . My wife bought a new one last year with removable ear protectors and she loves it . No more wind noise . Another thing I would consider is a helmet with a ratchet strap ( I think that's what it's called ) versus the d-links . My half helmet , which I use for short trips have the ratchet and it's easy on on/off , love it .

The thin strap vs thicker strap will not make a difference to wind noise. I have both types.

Foam ear plugs.
