Interstate traffic moves fast in Michigan. I'd rather ride one of my BMWs in it than my Road King. I try to avoid urban freeways on any motorcycle.
IMO, Sport and Sport Touring bikes are best for riding in Interstate traffic because I prefer to move through it rather than having it move past me or build up behind me.

They do have some great riding up here. Ridden around the Great Sacandaga lake 3 times now. It took quite awhile before the ice melted on it.

Anyone who thinks interstates are boring has not ridden on I-26 in northern SC. I've never feared for my life
as much as whenever I'm on that road. If you're not going 85 MPH you will get rear-ended. People
change langes usually without looking and VERY quickly, so there's not much reaction time. I have had
many, many close calls when motorcycling on that stretch -- it's packed full of stark raving lunatics.

Little back ground for me. I'm not new to Motorcycles by any means but most of my experience was years ago on dirt bikes. I have had a Harley about 5-7 years ago that I rode some but the wife then (X-Wife now) didn't care to ride with me so I sold it.
So now I have had my 07 Heritage since November and haven't been able to ride a ton but going every chance when I can.
with that said there is something about running the interstate that kind of bothers me a little. I'm sure its more of a confidence thing but man the way people drive on the interstate freaks me out when I drive my truck let alone the bike.
what is your all opinions on riding on the interstates. is it more of confidence thing than anything in your opinion?

I only avoid them in the sense that out on the open road, they are boring. Only time I'm on them out there is when I'm looking to cover big miles in a short time.
As far as safety and risk go, they are the best place to be. All the traffic flowing in the same direction, no intersections, etc. Not a lot of left turns in front of you on the Interstate.
