Default Paughco Hardtail Frame Rear Axle RemovalxStuck

Everything thing has been removed from time the entire bike.....except the rear wheel....

Right side nut is removed....axle spins freely.... left side has solid bolt that feeds through the frames axle plate/tab....then into a spacer that seems to take the brunt of the hammer force from the right side...then.....Through the rear sprocket and rim....the tab that the axle sits almost looks slotted which seems impossible..... like its set to not go forward or back but is probably an illusion....I watched this done on this bike many years ago.... I remember a hammer and maybe a double nut so he could really grab the other side and twist with out the nut he was gripping coming undone.... vague memories that don’t make a lot of sense..... I can send pics tomorrow but would like to pull it out tomorrow morning to tear down the engine which is al ready to go....it’s an aftermarket axle for sure....chrome bolt...I don’t like banging on things unless I’m positive it’s necessary. Would really appreciate any advice

If the axle nut is off, a few easy taps with a dead blow on the thread end should be all it takes.

Squirt some Marvel Mystery oil or Kroil on the exposed axle, around the spacers and wheel hub both sides and let it sit for a day. Dead blow hammer should do it, if not a piece of hardwood put the nut back on flush and smack it a few times with a bigger hammer.

Had a few stubborn axles, rusted in or spun bearing, soaking lets things slide once it breaks loose.

Too bad the guy before you didn't feel the same way...that thing's been banged more than a stripper at a biker party.
Get a bigger hammer.

Helps if you use a brass drift or a brass or bronze hammer. Yer gonna need a new axle anyway, methinks, from the look of that.
