A sportster has it’s place and fan base. For what I use a motorcycle for it does not cut it.

Unless it was a low or ‘Hugger’, I never understood the ‘woman’s bike’ comments especially for the sportier models Harley has marketed over the years. These were originally designed to compete with triumph, bsa, and, Norton’s after all and still cover a lot of ground in 2019. Sport, commute, tour.

For me, I love the old xlcr’s, 1200s and the 04-05 1200R’s which my brother just bought an unmolested orange 1200r that wasn’t lowered nor had forwards or apes fitted. A real deal....sportster. Authentic stuff.

My perfect sportster is in the flavor of a silver xr1200 with ohlins shocks, Showa bpf forks with racetech springs and the gold valve kit plus some other goodies that make it an ideal corner carver when I’m in the mood for such things.

I'm 250lb and ride a Sporty. Tallboy seat makes all the difference!

YES! I have traded Dyna's, Ultra's but will not ever trade/sale my 09 XR1200, 16 Roadster, 14 1200T or 03 883R. I would like to find an 1200S. They do anything a same generation Dyna will do only better like out run them. The T tours as well as any of my touring bikes. toured many thousands of miles on mine. I call BS on they can't do anything well. They do EVERTHING well;

And this is the best Sportster engine ever made, if you can call the engine a Sportster. It does have "sportster" on the dummy cam cover.

"Perfect" in regards to motorcycles - and many other things is unobtainium, but ... it would be pretty darned close.

It's not just a black canvas for bolt on chrome thingies; but truly a mechanical platform capable in so many genres' - canyons, drag strips, light dirt, touring - so versatile.

I rode my Road Glide from the east coast out to Sturgis and back last month - the RG obviously handled the slab component of the trip with aplomb and also held it's own on Needles highway, Iron Mountain Road and the like during more spirited morning runs the week before the event. Next year, my youngest son and I are trucking/trailering out there. Though I am blessed to own four Harleys currently (gotta sell at least one!) I'm bringing my Suzuki Bandit 1250S out there. That being said, if I happen to stumble upon a 1200R Sportster ... hmmm.

When a big guy gets on a sportster, it looks small.

When a small guy gets on a sportster, it looks small.

It's just a tiny bike.

I love to look at them though.

Not much to understand. Usually just a blowhard trying to tear someone else down to make himself feel bigger.
I owned three different XLCHs back in the day (in my 20's) and I loved them all. I'd like to see all the manly men handle the '72 Stroker I had. That thing was a hand full for anyone and if you didn't get the starting sequence just right (or didn't know what you were doing) it could break your f'n leg.
