Unhappy Bare Metal Polish

Happy Fathers Day to all,
I polished my 04 Heritage Classic with "Bare Metal Polish", then read the small print instructions "Do not use on painted or chrome surfaces"..
What are the results of this?

This stuff is abrasive, meant for "bare metal" like raw aluminum parts (some HD rocker boxes and such).
Chrome is not a bare metal.

If you went crazy rubbing it into chrome it would probably dull, scratch or leave it looking like a satin mess. I use Blue Magic on chrome, non abrasive, unbelievable shine and leaves a protective wax-like coating.

I used HD Bare Metal Polish on the painted and Chrome polish on the chrome.
I'm hoping for no damage to the paint.

Thanks

Why would you use a product called “Bare Metal Polish” on painted surfaces? The name seems pretty self explanatory.

Using any kind of metal polish on paint should be an obvious no no. Depending on how hard you got into it you may not have damaged the paint. You should be able to tell by taking a close look at it. Try putting some wax on the paint and see if that helps.

Ummmm, I can't help wondering if that's a real question or a troll post. It sounds kind of like, "I dripped some paint on my bike and tried to get it off with paint remover but it took off a lot of the original paint off too. What should I do to put the paint back on?"
