Kind of like massage parlors and Chinese buffets when they get busted?

The same Chinese factory is probably still cranking them out, just for a different importer.

Yea I had seen that when I started searching for more info. That's from last year and I'm assuming the AK88S may have been a different model than the AK88?

The same thing happened about 10-12 years ago to another manufacturer of "smallest, lightest DOT approved helmet," NEXL Sports. The company couldn't afford the DOT ordered recall and went out of business. I owned two of their helmets and I've been wearing them up to the present day, despite the recall. I found them lightweight and comfortable, and I was wearing one the day I had my accident in April. Did it save my life? Who knows? That's the thing with accidents, they're so accidental.

With one of my helmets trashed from the accident, and seeking another "lightweight" helmet, that brings me to this thread. I ended up ordering a "Crazy Al's" helmet, which arrived today. It's well constructed and the quick release retention strap is nice, but I'd have to say that's about it. The helmet is light because there's not much to it. the shell and Styrofoam liner are about half the thickness of my old NEXL. It's not totally useless, I suppose, it probably offers as much protection as the helmet I wear when I ride my racing bicycle. However, it this helmet would actually pass DOT impact testing, then I'm the Queen of England. What you're really buying is not much better than the old "novelty helmets" they used to sell at swap meets.

I'll bet it's the same helmet. Before Akoury started selling this helmet another company did. Same exact lid, different name. I bought one years ago before any of us heard about Akoury. The reason why they're low profile is because the "protective" foam inside is only about the width of a dime. Definitely not DOT compliant even though they have a DOT sticker on them. Way over priced for what you're getting, but people pay for vanity. lol I've worn mine maybe 3 times in the past 3 years.

Yes, and if you size is not in stock, there's a link that refers you to the new brand they carry.

That site is pretty good. I ordered one of the new brands and they shipped it within 2 hours.
