Yes another handle bar question

Ok first off . Sorry for bringing this subject up. But it seems the more I research bars for my road kind. The more confusing it gets. I upgraded my bars on my 06 heritage softail classic deluxe at no problem. But now I want to replace the stock piece of junk bars. The main thing about the bars that I cant deal with. Is how much I have to reach over . Height isnt all that great. But they are so short. that i feel like I'm a croach rocket.. question. Does anyone off hand know. How far i can go back with the stock controls. I have plenty of clutch and some on the wires. Not looking to go with apes or anything to crazy. Just want to be comfortable. The dealer said I could go 2" max. Which I think that seems pretty short. I dont care if I have to put a new brake line. Just was wondering what others thought or have ran into. I have some friends coming out from Utah on the 4th and I'm riding to sturgis with them. So the simpler and quicker the project the better.. especially after the dealer quoted me 1,200$ to install.. anyways, once again thanks for any help and advice from your install experience.

10” bars are great on my bike cables are stock length...

Stock RK bars were not comfortable at all.

What year is the Road King? I have owned 2 Road Kings, an 03 and an 09, both had Heritage on them with the stock cables. There is a good bit of cable and wire running under the fuel tank, its pretty easy to re-route it and gain several inches if you need to. And yes, the stock RK bars are crap.

I got an '07 King & I love my bars.

I had the same issue on my 09 RKC. It would give me a back ache.
Like Bubba Z, I put Heritage style bars on it, stock cables and hoses, problem fixed.

Not sure why they set the bars up like that from the factory? Reaching or hunching down to the bars sucks beyond a 20 minute ride.

Here is a great site to get information on bars. Plus they are great to talk with, able to answer your questions on cables, etc.

I had an 02 RK I put 10 inch bars on and that made the kinks in my shoulders go away. I didn’t have to change the stock cables. I still wanted something a bit higher to bring my arms more parallel to the ground and increased to 12” LA Choppers. At that point I had to change the throttle cables, clutch and brake line and for the control wires I just bought an extension kit. I ended up having to change the bars on my EG too but went with 14”. When I mounted each set I sat on the bike upright and tried to get into the most relaxed position I could to bring the bars back to a more natural position for me. Best thing ever when you’re not hunched over and can sit back and relax.
