Craigslist has gotten rotten with scam texts and emails when ever I use it to sell something.

In your opinion, what is the best method for selling your bike, is it still Craigslist?

 

I would still use Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, cycletrader &eBay.

You need to word your Craigslist ad properly. “Must pay cash, pick up with cash in hand. No help needed selling. Test ride with total sale price in hand , cash.”

And get one of those bank bill markers and a copy of the buyers license. If they balk, let ‘em walk.

Cash only, photo potential buyer and DL/ID.
Meet at a police station parking lot.

If any of this is awkward for the buyer - well ...

 

Ive used Craigslist to buy and sell a bunch of stuff. Yes there is a lot of crap to wade through but its still pretty effective. The scams are usually really easy to spot if you have even a glint of common sense.

 

Cycle trader, EBay and links on forums.

 

I put the following statements at the front of my Craigslist advertisements:

Please provide a good phone number with your reply so I know it is not spam.
I will reply and provide my mobile number.

Your reply will be deleted and not answered if there is not a good phone number.

Mostly does the trick; however, you still get some fake numbers but it weeds out most.

 

Craig's List is still a viable option, and so are other market apps such as OfferUp and Bookoo. Most importantly, take some good photos of the bike at different times of the day (avoid noon) to find the ones that make your bike look its best. and provide plenty of photos. I don't even pay attention to ads with just one photo that often times is taken from a far distance.

Sex sells, so if you know of a pretty lady who can pose with the bike, do it. It will attract more views. You often see this in YouTube videos. Videos with millions (no typo) of views often show a hot babe in the thumb image.

Showcase as much as you can, such as newer tires, service records, the size of the engine, low miles, etc.

 

Craiglist….has our co-members answering as best.

Too bad we can't rent hookers there anymore...haha.
