My daughter and son-in-law purchased their second new Ultra Classic last Aug. It's a 2017.

We were chatting via phone last week and she mentioned something that didn't seem quite right. She said that if they let the bike sit for 3 days or more without having it on their battery tender it doesn't have enough battery to start.

I know that most of the larger touring bikes--regardless of manufacturer--are tech heavy and will always have some battery drain when they sit (If my Wing sits for more than 2 weeks I always put it on its battery tender) but to lose starting charge levels after only 3 days seems a little extreme.

Have any of you had that kind of experience with new/OEM batteries? Should they be having their battery checked and load tested by the dealer?

Any constructive thoughts will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Get the battery tested. It is an electrical item, even brand new out of the box, it can be bad.

You said its a new bike, so I assume it was a leftover 2017. If that's true the battery is probably 3 years old. Sitting in a showroom for 3 years without maintaining the battery will drain any battery.

Edit- make the dealership install a new battery

Sounds like the warranty may still be in force- have the dealer check it. It is not normal for a battery to run down after 3 days, even with the tech heavy thing.

Thanks for your thoughts. Pretty much confirms what I was thinking but I don't have any experience with the model/tech suite so I didn't know whether there was something unique on the Ultra Classic that had high current drain at rest.

Thanks again.
