Default Warranty issue

Im on a trip, Florida to Maine. On day three I get up only to discover that I have no gauges (no speedometer, no fuel, no cruise, no turn signals, nothing). I take the bike to Boston HD and they tell me that the instrument cluster is bad and needs replaced. Its no big deal the bikes under warranty so they replace the part and all is good until Im told that the bill is $158. I asked how that can be since I have a warranty and it should only be $50 for the deductible. I was told that I still had to pay for the labor for the diagnostic work. I complained and then they said they could knock 15% of the labor. After some more back and forth they decided they would "eat" the labor and I would be allowed to just pay the $50 deductible.

anyone else ever encountered this issue ? last year on a trip out west I had a mechanical issue and the dealership out there just asked for the $50 deductible they never once said anything about labor or diagnostic fees.

Sounds like the dealer was trying to rip you off. They probably hoped you would be so happy they fixed it that you wouldn’t complain

My understanding if it's not under warranty you still have to pay the diagnostic fee but if it ends up falling under warranty they eat that and it's just the $50

Or a new aftermarket warranty company if they require the owner to pay for diagnostic fees.

That dealership saw a out of state rider that needed to get back on the road and tried their best to rip you off. Wonder if they treat their regulars the same way.

Grew up in my teen years in Seminole County.

Didn't know boston hd was that bad. I'll have to avoid them in the future. For future reference Montys in bridgewater and cape cod hd in pocasset are good dealers.

If you have to diagnose a warranty problem to fix it, it's part of the warranty work.
