I have noticed the same in the DFW area the last two weeks. Last two mornings in a row during traffic report truck vs bike and a bike on car this morning. Also noticed they said on the one this morning no life threatening injury. If it just a few cagers look twice, glad to see it. Need all the help we can get out there most days.

I agree, to the non-riding majority they are:
noisy
polluting
dangerous
they are unnecessary transportation
stereotype squids and hooligans doing 80 mph wheelies
lane splitting
cause insurance premiums to increase
riders scare children and animals
disproportionate use of EMS/police/fire

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy..like gun control, we could expect more motorcycle control.

MA is worse. I commute from Central MA to Boston and have close calls at least 3x week

All things on TV are meant to sell ads. There is no other reason. The decision as to what makes the cut is solely based on ratings. Ratings determine fees for ad time. It is no more complicated than that. Perhaps over time they have found motorcycle crashes are more provocative than other potential news stories. Believe me it is about money not a public service.

It's the blood and gore factor. Unlike most car accidents, motorcycle wrecks can be pretty graphic, with twisted metal and bodies strewn across the road etc.

It also reinforces the perception most hold that motorcycling is too dangerous an activity for anybody and certain death awaits. They get to point their finger and say, "See, I told you. This is what happens if you ride a motorcycle".

Here in Oklahoma any report of a motorcycle accident always ends with...'the rider was/was not wearing a helmet'.

True.

They never mention if the rider was wearing any other type of safety gear.

"Highway patrol confirms that the rider was rocking flip-flops and was not wearing gloves, leathers or a padded mesh jacket..."

I check news of all types at least twice a day, and where I live motorcycle accidents don't make the national news coverage unless they are unusual in some way. (like killing several people at once) Around here there are motorcycle accidents on a regular basis that they can report on. The local ones almost always have the same two or three causes, depending on whether another vehicle is involved. They are

A: car pulls out in front of mc that has the right of way, driver "didn't see" the mc (the majority)

B: rider failed to negotiate a curve, either excessive speed or alcohol/drugs/ or sometimes both involved

C: animal or other road hazard

There is another thread that talks about group rides and how dangerous some people think they are. Of the news coverage in my area going back years, an accident involving two or more mc's hitting each other is a very rare event. If it's an accident involving two or more motorcycles at all, it's usually the lead mc has an accident and the other mc's are following too close or didn't leave themselves room to maneuver around. I've personally witnessed two of those myself. Regardless of fault of the lead mc accident, if you are following too close and run into them, you will probably be cited and considered at fault for your accident. Extremely tight groups riding side by side might be great for escorted rides where the side traffic is blocked, (or if you're out on some deserted road) and look really cool, but otherwise they are a potential hazard if other vehicles are around.

But he had his helmet on... Well, at least they'll find his head intact.

You guys are enlightening me to something I hadn't considered; increasing awareness of motorcycles. I suppose there's a good point to highlighting motorcycle accidents in that more people will hopefully be more aware of their existence.
