Dyna Twin Cam’s vs Softail Milwaukee 8’s Reliability
Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have had experience with either of these two engines reliability wise, especially into the high mileage range. I’ve had my 2019 sportster 1200 for about 6 months now and I’m already wanting to trade up to a big twin but can’t decide between a Dyna either a street bob or a low rider s or a Softail street bob. I have already racked up 14k miles on my sporty and since I live in San Diego and ride everyday and could probably rack another 14k in another 6 months (my daily commute is about 100 miles). I really want a bike that I can have for a long time and rack the miles on while commuting and for it to not break. I’m still in college right now so money is not so tight that I can’t afford a new bike but tight enough that I don’t want to keep paying to fix a new bike. I’m really just lookin to see if anyone has had an M8 or a Twin Cam go past 50k miles and how reliable they were. Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

Should be plenty of bikes with 10K around, still quite a few with 20K, but not too many over 30K. I wouldn't start considering them high mileage till 70-80K and there might be a couple of them already, but not enough to form a solid basis of reliability for the total population.

Twin Cam is a known, the M8 has been out for a while, but the Softail version is a little different so still a bit of an unknown.
I did find this thread where folks were posting how many miles they have on their 2018+ softail.
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/2018-...r-softail.html
One rider said he had over 40,000.

I've got 7k on my FXDLS and haven't had any major issues, but i've seen others have had problems with lifters, motor mounts and fork seals failing.
I don't think there's any reasons reliability wise that would make me pick one over the other, but you should really test ride both as those bikes feel pretty different to ride.
