I just had to rebuild the one from the wifes 15 Freewheeler. place in Canton Ohio does them. Cost me $319.00. Or they'll sell you all the parts to do it yourself. Call them up. Super easy to deal with. Quick turn around. She got good at making sure she didnt have to back up. Lol. I write tied the main ground out of the way. She had no downtime.

Mine just went out on my 2015 Trike today, I have a 3 year ESP plan and already have a new one on order and going to have it replaced under warranty. What shocked me was there was no warning that might have led to to believe it was getting ready to go.
I used the reverse to back back it up at dealer, went out to lunch and used it again at the restaurant. When I went to back up at the dealer again, nothing. I put it in neutral, pressed the button and the reverse indicator came on, pressed it to go into reverse and nothing, no click, nothing.
Checked the relay and made sure it was reset, went inside to get a service tech to check it out and he determined it probably was the motor. Thank god I decided to get the 3 year ESP, paid for itself the first major repair.
They ordered the new motor today and should have it in 5 days and they said it’s a couple hour job, so I should have my reverse back shortly. Still upsets me that the thing went without a warning, oh well.

Those having reverse motor problems, be sure the motor is disengaged before you go forward. All it takes is to let the trike roll rearward after you let off the switch.
This lets the reverse gear push the motor drive back to disengage from the gear.
They have a habit of sticking together. This gives you a feeling of not rolling forward freely. When the gear gets loose the trike will roll forward freely. If this sticks engaged it will take out the armature and maybe the brush ring.
Just something from experience !

I use mine when I have to. I try to park where I dont need to. But it's worked just fine so far. Better. It's a 19 thays 5 weeks old. My wife has a 15 FW. We bought it with 9500 miles on it. She burned up her reverse backing down a 100' driveway. Then yelled at me for not telling her that she cant so that. Lol. She was joking. I dont want her to have the mechanical reverse. Its better. But this is safer. For her. Dont get me wrong. She rides very well.

Funny this would be brought up. I recall dealership personnel telling me" yes, there is a reverse but don't use it anymore than absolutely necessary, its simply a starter motor and will burn out"! I don't use it but when I have to but I still purchased the warrenty plan for the bike.
As I said I was shocked that the reverse went without a warning which surprised me, I am glad I have the extended warranty plan, but I feel for the folks who don’t have one.
I would have thought they would have used a heavy duty motor for the reverse function for a 35K motorcycle? But, that’s another issue all together. Hopefully someone at Harley Davidson is reading these forums and are aware of the issues.
