Well..... Skip, it looks like it had a crack before it broke. I've had some problems with this rebuild.I replaced the valve seats myself (I do it on the diesels all the time) and I dropped a valve seat on the front exaust, it broke the lash adjuster and blew out the pushrod. The valve must have hit the piston although after removing the heads I could find no damage to the piston or rod but I think it may have shock loaded the end of the pinion shaft transmitted down through the cam. I used a Jims pinion shaft when I did the wheels, Ive never heard of anyone having a problem with their quality. Frank, a thunderheader is a two into one exaust system that is suposed to work well with shovelheads

Strange how sometimes things happen a mile away from the original incident. Hopefully, you won't find anything else. I dropped a seat in a Chev 307 years ago. Got a rebuilt motor (warranty) as it completely trashed a piston & cylinder.
