Seems like the time is right to buy a used Harley. Got an '06 or '07 in mind and I'm going to apply for the dealer assisted loan at the local Harley dealer. Would probably put about to 5,000 down which would leave close to 10,000 (a little extra for a few mods) left to finance. Any good deals or companies you've had experiences with? Would appreciate the help.

 

I think you are possibly going about this all wrong:
1) new 07's are heavily discounted and come with full warranties.
2) your payment on a used bike will quite possibly the the same or more than the new bike because of an interest hike on the used bike.
3) if you do elect to go used the dealer is the worst place to buy. you can save a couple of grand by going private party over the dealer.
4) i've heard that the online banks offer the best rates vs. your local brick and mortor bank or check out a couple of local credit unions rates assuming you have good credit.

I wasn't going to buy used from a dealer. I've been seeing good deals from private parties. For instance, there's an '07 Streetbob w/stage1 and black Bassani pipes with 180 miles for 14k. I can get new Streetbobs OTD from 2 dealers for about $15,500 but stock. They DO have the low rate financing on '07s right now 'til the end of the month so I haven't ruled that out. Just trying to get some feedback.

 

One CU I have the Van financed through is 6.49 for both new and used bikes.Another CU I have an account with is offering 6.25 for both.

 

New 2007s are 2.9-4.9% now for 36-60 months. You might want to geta new one.

 

new= known history, warranty, you known the location of the seller if there is a problem(s) with anything down the road.
used- higher interst rate, shorter term financing, less or no warranty, unknown history, if the bike is found to be stolen in 2 years were is the seller? believe me it happens all the time. at this time of year you can probably negotiate a real nice deal on a real nice new 07, make them a crazy offer like 3k off list with the stage 1 (which is really trash) and with a nice set of pipe and an air cleaner. I doubt they will take that much off but it's a good start,always be ready to walk out, there are many, many dealers who will take the deal just like I wrote it.

I finaced mine onlinethrough Capital One. It was quick and easy. YMMV
