Last year at this time we were looking for a used Pontoon Boat. I really wasn't looking at E-bay, but was using their prices along with a local Craig'sList for pricing info.
A really nice boat turned up on both sites; same spiel & pictures. But, the pictures didn't show a boat license anywhere on it. Red flag for a used (6 year old boat). Of coarse the boat was out of state, and had to be paid off a.s.a.p.
BUYER BEWARE!
So I've been watching a nice 2018 CVO Street Glide on Ebay for several days, waiting for the final hours to bid. The seller looked legit, with over 100 positive feedbacks, and a long time member. With a little more than 4 hours remaining, the high bid was only $22K, making me think I might have a shot at winning the auction. I submitted my max bid for $25,600, but got an e-bay message stating: "Sorry, the seller is not accepting bids or offers from you at this time". I tried to message the seller, but got another message stating that the seller is not accepting messages from you at this time. I've got 100% positive feedback and over 450 transactions as both buyer and seller. I don't get sh1tty with people on e-bay, so that wasn't a factor either. I can understand canceling a zero or low feedback bidder, which I've done in the past. But not this. To top it off, the auction ended yesterday, and the bike sold for an even $25K. This morning I messaged the Seller (apparently I was no longer blocked once the auction ended) and let him know what happened.
This is the first time I've ever seen something like this happen. And I do a fair amount of buying on E-bay, although not as much as in the past.
I've got a couple thoughts on what might have happened (some nefarious in nature), but was wondering if any Ebayer on here has any possible explanations for this?
Would appreciate any constructive thoughts on this. Thanks for reading!
Some dealers, especially on larger items, will restrict bidders to their local area because they don't want to deal with the hassle of shipping.
How far away are you from the seller? Is there any place in the ad that says "Local Auction Only"
Was watching this bike on eBay but i bet this bike is exactly the same scam. Glad I saw your post. No plate or vin number listed. Long time member that rarely uses his account. Never sold anything before on eBay.

No, it didn't say 'local auction only'. I only search and bid on Privately Owned bikes, and filter out the Dealer bikes.

The link is dead, but it probably is the same 2018.
