Trying to change out my stock rubber shift pegs out for matching streamliners for my SG. Them dang things won't budge. Am I going to have to put a heat gun on it or what? Any advise would be appreciated. I don't even own a heat gun and would be kind ofashamed to have to let the dealer do something so simple.
Heat will work...or do the vise grip trick. You will ruin the original probably. Cut the rubber off the old one, use vise grips but heat does work too, that is what I did.
+1 on the vise grips. Set them as tight as possible and just start twisting. The rubber will warp pretty far once you start, but eventually the peg will start turning.
Heat is better than force. Sure, vice grips and such work most of the time. However, I have seen one or two shifter pegs broken off in the shift lever after guys tried to muscle them off.
Vice grips did the trick, but not until I cut the rubber off enough to grip the metal shank. I swear nothing is easy. Put on head bolt bridges, timer cover, headlight visor trim kit, rocker bolt covers and new shift pegs today and all but the timer cover was a PITA. Oh yeah, forgot the new gas tank door, it was easy.....it will probably fly off tomorrow.
