Why wouldn’t this work?
Objective: only requiring forks to be locked
Proposed solution: adding a switch/button/relay in the ground somewhere.
Phase 2 upgrade: fob/magnetic activated?
Alright so looking at the TC softail wiring diagram, looks like the keyed ignition allows the ignition to be switched into ACC and ON modes. All ON does is grounds the speedo, fuel gauge, lights/hand control, fuel pump and various other sensors to the main harness. So if I was to tap in a relay or switch into that one specific wire would this essentially work? Not sure if anything else would be left on or need to be considered when tapping this one wire (doesn’t look so based on wiring diagram)
the bike will always be in ON mode at the ignition **** (unlocked) but wouldn’t actually be ON until the switch/button/relay is actually activated somewhere on the bike... so essentially I can just deactivate the switch, lock the forks, and walk away?
also figured it might potentially be added safety from thieves that would just drill/brake the fork and ignition anyways?
as for the Phase 2, I know motogadget actually uses a keyless fob option but not sure if their m unit is required or can be done standalone and just used in replacement of the switch? Motogadget also has a small “pill” size fob that other riders have been known to sew into their gloves so all that needs to be done is forks unlocked, then gloves waved over a hidden spot with the receiver
or am I just thinking too out of the box here? Does the CANBUS system cause any issue for this?
