Default New guy here

Hi everyone have been lurking here for a while, and like your web site. I need some advice. I want to sell my 05 Softail Standard ( bought it last year in Oct at Chosa's in AZ) and get into a bagger. Would it be better to sell the bike on ebay? or try to find a dealer that would work out a deal with me. Thanks Tony

Forget about using it as a trade-in to a dealer. You will get a better deal by selling it locally. In my area we have www.craigslist.com where I've sold a Sportster and a V-Rod. Since the buying parties were somewhat local (San Jose & Sacramento), delivery was no problem. Try to find something like that in your area of Chandler.

I like Ebay but you have to be careful. Lot's of pranksters out there. This isn't the best time to try and sell your bike in your area if it gets real cold. Ebay really puts you out there where people can see it.

it depends if your area has a sales tax on bikes. If you trade your bike you'll only have to pay the tax on the difference. If you sell your bike privately and buy a new bagger you'll have to pay the whole tax again. For this reason you can afford to take a LITTLE less from the dealer and still come out ahead...if you have a sales tax . (at least that's how it works in my part of the world) i'm usually better off trading, and it's way less hassle.

try ebay. But don't get your hopes up.....lots of folks bidding 99 cents and stuff like that......

The dealer is there to make $$$$, and will convince you you're getting a good deal, and then a wek later, he's asking $1,500 more than what he gave you!

Be patient...you have a ride now, you can ride while you're trying to sell. Year round riding here in AZ will help you out. List it everywhere you can and get the price you want. In the meantime, you can shop for what you want your new ride to be and make up your mind without the added pressure of not having a ride in the meantime.

When I sold my Electra Glide, I was going to put it on e-bay. Before I got around to doing it, word of mouth got around and a friend of a friend bought it for my full asking price. Maybe put the word around with some of your friends and see if you get any takers.

I sold my last bike on Ebay. I had to list it twice, but it sold for what I was asking. It was January in Indiana, so bikes don't move too fast. Bought my current bike on Ebay as well. Point being, try Ebay.
