Default Paint a 100 Year Anniversary Model?

I have a black 2003 anniversary edition Wide Glide. While I like the color, I wouldn't mind doing a custom paint job, while perhaps incorporating the tank emblem. Any thoughts on whether or not this is a good or bad idea?

I like the traditional 100 year anniversary paint. I would buy another set of tins...

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted. Anyone know where I can get info about a 2nd set?

Also, what might a price range be for custom paint? I'm not looking for anything too exotic. Probably some flames or something like that.

If you are gonna paint it, why get a second set of tins? The 03 models are worth no more than the others and are depreciating at the same rate. If the paint means something to you , by all means get the second set of tins, but if you are just tired of the look, just paint it IMO

That's my plan as well. Plus no down time of the bike.

At the recommendation of another member, I contacted the guys at www.customflamepainting.com. I filled out the quote form and got a response the next day. You can browse through work samples and custom sets. Each has a number assigned so if you find one you like you can include that number in the quote form. Each one is done by hand (they said) so each will be slightly different. They also have tanks and fenders. You can also add things a la carte like rivet removal on fenders and seam removal from the tank. Oh, and they have stretched tanks, too. Price wise, they're quite reasonable. My bill will approach the $4k mark but it's going to be a bit more elaborate with all the a la carte stuff.

I don't believe the 100 year bikes will be worthany more than any otherfor another 30 - 50 years and only then if it is new in the crate.

Do whatever feels right.

I'd pay a couple grand more for a custom painted bike if the guy has the stock tins with it. It just says to me it has probably never been crashed. Even with carfax type services, many fix their own without ever reporting it, thus no record in those services.

Dalton makes agood point here, all the hype about anniverery edition don't mean doodley squat
I do not see anyone paying more for a 100th year bike just sellers asking more
and we all know the answer to that one.

Drop the existing tins and paint them. This is what I did with my Night Train
Oh yeah, it is a 100th year anniversery edition..... whoopdy doo
