Default Prepaid service?

Orlando harley has a deal that if you buy a bike from them new, you can prepay around 1300 bucks and the first 3 years service is covered as well as a free rental when yur bike is in for service.

mathematically, it is a good deal, I guess, but here's the part that seems odd;

If you have prepaid for the service, you go in front of everyone else with an appointment, even if you need an oil change and the guy in front of you is from out of state and needs a new tire to continue on.

I guess if I had this benefit it would be cool, but since I don't, it strikes me as a little weird, but I am also a little weird myself I guess.

Another big money maker for the dealer is all that it is.

I'm sure it is for the delaer considering how many people will probably skip some services, but wouldn't it be much cheaper than doing the first 3 years service by paying on your own.

I am sure the "get the service amnual for 50 bucks and do it yourself" replies are soon to come, but I am trying to figure out if the cutting in line part is standard, or regional?

I did it for my bike it was $1,400 for my 1,000 2,500 5,000 7,500 and 10,000 mile service, Yes the 2,500 and the 7,500 are nothing but an oil change but the 1,000 and 10,000 are worth it.
Bypaying for it at time of purchase i was able to roll it into the financing and I don't have to worry about coming up with the little extra bit of cashwhen my service is due.
Now when it comes time for my 10,000 mile service the only money I need to come up with is $200 and that is for a new tire.

Is this an unlimited mileage deal? Mine was, and I've come out good, based on what I would have paid. But, I could have saved a lot by doing it myself. There was only one time at our dealership where we had "to wait," and that wait was nearly three weeks, in the middle of the summer. Otherwise we get right in.

See this thread where it was discussed:

https://www.hdforums.com/m_2414773/tm.htm

Based on what the dealer would normally charge, we broke even at15,000 miles/14 months.

Service checks:

1000 mile $321.52
5000 mile 327.94
10000mile387.43
15000mile327.94

Full oil changes included in all of the above, plus engine oil changes at 2500, 7500, and 12,500, . Price of eachofthese oil changes with Syn3 and chrome oil filters would have been $76.59 .

Total cost at 15,000 miles would have been $1594.60

Total cost if I had done it all myself: 36 quarts of oil$9.95plus7 oil filters @ $13.95,4 gasket sets at $17.45 each, andfour spark plugs @ $3. Total $537.65

I guess I'll eventually get around to starting a new thread titled, Should people who prepaid for a service plan go to the front of the service line?"

That was what I was really wunderin

MNPGRider has it right. It's a rip. Also, there is a three year limit. Wonder how many riders they service run up 15,000 miles in three years.

To answer your specific question, yes, that is what we were told as well, and except for the one time I mentioned, we got right in by calling a day ahead of time. Dropped bike off at 11 am, never waited longer than 3:30 pm to have it done, and they give us a demo to take out to dinner. Or service writer freely admitted that they come out pretty good on prepaid maintainance because of the low miles put on by so many yuppies.

I wouldn't care if it cost a buck, I still wouldn't want it. The guy doing your service is most likely the least skilled in the whole shop. No thanks.....I'll do it myself and make sure it is done right. If it gets screwed up, I can look in the mirror and blame the man I see. Servicing a HD ain't hard with the help of a factory service manual. After all, it's just a motorcyle, really an outdated motorcycle, not a space shuttle.

prepaid is a good deal in the long run cause if the labor rate or cost of oil goes up you will be locked in to the list prices for service, fluids, gaskets ect at the time you signed your agreement. Know what I mean??
