AMA article, very worrisome.
 

Ok look you may not care right now..they are targeting sportsbikes...but event hen their statistics in the story are flawed and info the IIHS used is very incomplete.

What will stop them from targeting standards and tourers is this passes....all motorcycle enthusiasts should be troubled/angered by this.

There is a large number of people that drive sport bikes and should not have a license. Cutting other motorists off, whipping through all kinds of roads. They see the stuff on tv and go and try it in the local. I am sure the stats support the dangers. I hope it does not end up affecting the tour and cruise market. The gov could put restrictions on engine power who knows...

Most of those guys that do that "crazy" stuff dont have liscences....or sometimes even permits.....lol....its funny watching them get pissed on sportbike message boards where they come looking for sympathy..and everyone says...."Wow your're the village idot of the day"
Again all of this comes back to it being a rider related issue...
Also like I think I mentioned before..the fatality rate didnt take into account whether the rider or another motorist was at fault..or the fact that sportbieks are ridden in an urban(crash prone) environment more often than say a touring bike...
I still say tiered liscencing is THE only way we should roll here.

I see a lot of sportbike bashing on here (I have no vested interest; I've never ridden one and don't intend to), but if one were to go strictly by the motorcycle fatality stories reported in the local papers (Pittsburgh, PA), it would appear that the majority of motorcycle fatalities are suffered by middle-age and older men on Harley-Davidsons. Anecdotally (since I have no access to police reports or anything else like that) I keep hearing the same things: He was drunk, he just bought that Harley, he hasn't ridden for 20 years, and so on.

So if the IIHS looked around here, they'd have reason to target H-Ds. Just as stupid as targeting sportbikes. Having ridden an H-D and having ridden others, it's clear that there's nothing inherently dangerous about one type of (modern) motorcycle vs. another. It's the rider, stupid.

I rode a Ninja for many years and did read that article. I also read another article yesterday that France is limiting motorcycle horsepower to 100 maximum which leaves most of the larger CC bikes as illegal there.

The safety police trying to help us again.

its the same with go fast boats. just because my boat does 80 mph doeant mean im going to do 80
had to pay out the a$$ for insurance down sized to a slower boat insurance was 1/3.
