Default Tool bag....pouch...fork bag???

You can call them whatever you want but I think you guys know what I am talking about here. The bags that you put on your forks or on the bars just over your headlight.

Well what I dont understand is why the hell would anyone put one of these bags DIRECTLY in the path of cool air on the front cylinder? I know how hot some of the newer bikes can run right out of the box.....and yet I see people at the dealer with new bikes with one of these bags right in the way of the cool air. I also see people mounting them in front of the voltage regulator.....I mean the dam thing has cooling fins on it, so you have got to know it NEEDS air passing over it to keep it cool....dont you? I have tried once or twice to tell people who have their bag mounted in a stupid place....(in a very polite way...I know how people can be about their bikes) that its not such a good place to put the bag, but every time I get a look like as if i just walked out of a space ship.

I dont know I guess I just wanted to rant this morning.....got too much time on my hands I guess!

I have mine mounted on top of the fork tubes. Do you think my handlebars will overheat? [8D]

You have no reason to worry at all!
Believe, me, they will get it and understand how wrong their ways are in the end. When they ping a cylinder, or blow a head gasket, or burn a regulator, they will understand by themselves.
Everyone of us makes his own fate, and is father of his defeat.

But dam....come on, cant they even see the logic in why their choice of a place to mount a bag is not such a good idea when someone points it out to them????

What causes me to smile are the bags located under the headlights that will eventually take its toll on the top of the front fender.

Nothing down to get hot. Under of the voltage regulator. It can get dirty. So I keep eveything in a baggie.

Down there it will get dirty and wet.
Best place I've seen is on the side, behind the battery cover, in a custom sheet metal box.
Some bikes are designed to have the tool pouch under the headlamp (wide glide for ex) while in other cases, putting it there is to beg for a dinged front fender.

The real deal is that it is their bike not yours and they can abuse it in any way they like. If they want to put the bag in location that you feel is less than optimal that is OK. Do not waste your time trying to explain the problem that they have possibly created, because most do not want to hear it and some will even cop an attitude toward you. Experience is a hard, sometimes painful, and expensive teacher but it leaves lasting impressions. So do not worry about someone else’s bike and just do what you feel is the best thing for yours.
