Driving Two Motorcycles Side by Side Still Illegal

RE: Driving Two Motorcycles Side by Side Still Illegal
I always ride side by side. Then again, I hardly ever get on a highway.
But, I'm careful as I'm still very inexperienced. Not sure why, but everyone seems to do it here.
Most of the time you're in towns though; and the speed limit is like 30mph, or sometimes 35mph.

5 1/2 feet isn't much room to maneuver when necessary. 10MPH parades are quite different from 45-55MPH rides on 2-laners.

It's not that big of a deal if you are riding with experienced riders.
We do it all the time on group runs, but you do need to use a little common sense and drop to a staggered formation if dictated by road or traffic conditions.
Like the artictle stated, it's legal to ride 'side by side' in all but 2 states.
If other states thought it had become a safety issue, or that it was causing an increase in motorcycle related accidents, I would imagine they would make it illegal as well.

40 years ago when I was a new rider, a friend came up alongside me without any warning. Well I just happened to be moving to the left (slightly) and that caused him to drop his bike. No big harm done but I'll never ride two in a lane after that. Too many bad memories. On a highway, doing 70 mph, that's just one more thing to worry about.

And the staggered thing..... took a 60 mile ride recently on a 75mph interstate. We were doing 65 in the right lane and I was on the left, next to the zipper (white dotted line) and the guy behind me on my right was riding in my blind spot, which meant that if I moved right for left-lane traffic to pass, I'd hit his front wheel.... Let's just say that being passed by trucks and others doing 75 was thrilling (not)!
Next time, I'm riding at the very rear or I'm not going!

I only ride side by side with only one freind. We agreed the first time we rode together that I would e on the inside of the lane and he on the outside. we generally stagger and sometimes will be side by side on secondary roads (the ones that are wide enough). Never on the highway. too fast too dangerous in my mind.

It's funny how many people here are saying they believe it is more dangerous to ride side by side on the hwy and only do it on local roads. I only ride side by side on the hwy. Around town is where you have more idiots pulling out of driveways or intersections or turning left in front of you. I need the extra room to swerve. Not so much of that on the hwy. Gotta ride in your comfort zone though.
