Bicycle Rack for Harley's

Hey, As y'all can tell I'm still new here. Being an avid mountain biker too I was wondering if anyone out there make bicycle racks for motorcycles. I know I have seen them in the pass or did I see something that was home made by someone. Try not to laugh to much about this but once you try off road mountain biking you're hooked for life.

Nope not at all, I know I have seen bicycle racks on motorcycles before. I know it does look very strang and funny.

Okay, I saw an Electra-Glide with a milk crate strapped to the passenger seat last week.&nbsp\\; Now, I have an old Honda Hawk that also has a milk crate strapped behind the seat, but I always thought Harley riders were held to a slightly higher standard?

I'm guessing, but I suspect it was a homemade rig. I saw a guy toting his surfboard on a sporty a couple of weeks ago in Malibu. Had to question safety on that move.

I got a better idea.
Since nobody goes mountain biking alone, have you bro cart your wheels up with his, and you ride your sporty. That way, if you need to run for another six pack, you can.

I initially though you were asking about a motorcycle rack to carry your motorcycle on the back of your car.&nbsp\\;

Well even though it may be a little unsafe I&nbsp\\;have a welder buddy that built something for his BMW and it worked pretty well. he did a road trip with his Seven single speed on the left side of his fender and his IF road bike on the right. he put 2000 miles on it with out any problems.
&nbsp\\;
I work in the bicycle industry and as far as I know (and it is kind of my job to know) no one makes racks to mount on a motorcycle, probably due to liability isssues. But if you go to a metal shop they can fab something up that could be mounted to hold Yakima or Thule trays.
&nbsp\\;
or you can just get a cruiser/touring trailer and mount bike trays to it.

I have been through a few moutain bike wrecks and I am glad I didn't have to ride&nbsp\\;a motorcycle&nbsp\\;when I was done.&nbsp\\; Might be a bad idea.

They don't have anything for a Harley listed but I'm sure one of their racks could be rigged up to fit.

&nbsp\\;I've been wanting to tote mine with the bike also to save gas but I was lookin to retrofit a trailer to hold 2 bikes. That plans on hold due to the cost of a trailer.

The Harbor Freight kit trailer in my post can be adapted to hold 4 bikes.&nbsp\\; The sale price was $145.

Wouldn't you have to tie a red flag on the back of the bicycle?

Hey Carpet Ride

like your set up, I also have a Giant carbon road bike coming in at 16.5 lbs and want to haul it on my 2002 883 Sporty. Could you give specs on what kind of tray and how you attached it to your bike any other picts and of course any input on problems especially with windage and balance issues you are the man
I had always thought having it verticle and lower would be the way to go????

I'd love to have something I could set up on my King. I've seen a couple golf club mounts that use the backrest mounting hardware. I'm not sure how it would react to the weight of a bike at 20-30lbs but it'd be worth a look. Maybe I'll start designing something...

ky_ace 04-14-2009 12:19 AM

I'm working on a couple ideas right now getting a jump start on a class I have to take next year in school. Right now I only have a couple ideas for touring bikes using saddlebag and fender supports. I haven't had much time to look at Dynas, Softails, or Sportys so I don't have any ideas for that yet... If the touring one works out and I can get a couple made and sold, maybe I'll expand to another line...

Not a harley but here's a photo I took of a bike passing me on the freeway last year.

Good God man........ Its a motorcycle not a SUV. To think someone would even consider mounting that BS on the back of a bike.

Thats why the world has become "Warning Sticker" heaven.

No common sense any more

But if they want to ride without a helmet they have common sense? What happened to freedom of choice? A 20 pound bike is not anywhere close to what some guys pack on their bikes in the way of luggage.
A guy that rides bicycles with us sometimes has an Aprilla. He has a tray on about a 45 degree angle from his luggage rack to his passenger footpeg. He has it mounted to the footpeg, removable saddlebag mount, and the luggage rack. I'd like to rig something up on my bike as well. I ride a Felt F4 Carbon.

It's all about 2 wheels - you go Man!
Always thought about it myself.
I'm a Klein (ht mtn)- Trek (road) - KTM 300 XC-W rider too....

ky_ace 04-14-2009 11:37 AM

I'm a GT Pantera mtn, GT Pantera road, Kawi KDX 200 woods rider myself. I don't do too much road riding... I'm hoping to get a SS rigid 29er this summer sometime... If it happens and my ideas work out in FEA and i can find the right materials, you'll see it mounted to the m/c by fall...
